SNOWBANK STOPS IMPAIRED DRIVER

(HAMILTON TOWNSHIP, ON) - Members of the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have laid another impaired driving charge in Hamilton Township.
On Monday February 2, 2026, at approximately 4:40 am, officers received a call regarding a vehicle that was stuck in a snowbank at a location on Division Street. Officer arrived on scene and observed a black 4 door sedan with its front wheel lodged in the snowbank. A female was found slouched over in the driver’s seat. Officers woke the driver and observed a strong odour of alcohol. Upon speaking with the driver police suspected the individual had been consuming alcohol. The driver was taken into custody and transported to a near by OPP detachment where investigative testing was conducted which resulted in the driver registering over three times the legal limit.
As a result of the investigation, Miranda BENOIT (age 44) of Colborne Ont. was charged with the following Criminal Code offences:
- Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
- Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on February 25, 2026.
