Arrest after gun report downtown

A Guelph man faces weapons charges after several reports Friday of a man downtown with a handgun.
Approximately 1:45 pm police began receiving reports of a man with a handgun tucked in his pants. One witness also reported seeing the man with the gun in his hands. While officers were on scene speaking to witnesses the man came outside and was arrested.
A search revealed a loaded black pellet gun in his pocket, as well as a spring-assisted knife.
A 24-year-old Guelph man is charged with possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, carrying a concealed weapon, unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon, possessing a weapon contrary to an order and three counts of breaching probation. He was held for a bail hearing Monday.
In a separate incident Saturday evening, police were called to the transit terminal on Carden Street after witnesses reported seeing a man holding a possible firearm. The man was located sitting at the back of a bus holding a large cigarette lighter styled to resemble a firearm. A 31-year-old Guelph man was provided advice on use of the item in public.
