Two arrested for drug-impaired driving

Two men were arrested Tuesday in separate cases of impaired driving involving drugs.
Just before 4 pm police were notified of a driver possibly impaired by cannabis and located the vehicle in a parking lot near Gordon Street and Wellington Street. While speaking to the driver officers noted a strong odour of burned cannabis on his person. A marijuana cigarette and open package of marijuana were observed inside the vehicle.
The driver was arrested and transported to the police station, where an officer trained in drug recognition concluded his ability to operate a vehicle was impaired.
A 31-year-old Whitby man is charged with impaired driving and having care of a vehicle with open cannabis.
At 6:35 pm police were called for a two-vehicle collision on Teal Drive. One of the drivers believed the other was impaired. Officers arrived on scene and observed one driver to be showing signs of impairment. He was placed under arrest and a search revealed a baggie of suspected cocaine in his pocket.

A 24-year-old Guelph man is charged with impaired driving, dangerous driving, possessing a controlled substance and driving while suspended.
Both drivers had their licences suspended for 90 days and their vehicles impounded for seven days. They were released with upcoming court dates.
