Residents are reminded to be cautious when dealing with strangers after a woman lost two gold necklaces during a distraction theft Tuesday.
The victim was walking in the area of Gordon Street and Monticello Crescent when she observed two women in a vehicle who appeared to be in distress. The victim stopped to check on the women, who touched her hands and neck area. When the victim got home she noticed two gold necklaces were missing.
The women were described as possibly Indian or Asian. The driver was in her 50s and the passenger was possibly a teenager. They were driving a red vehicle.
Offenders may appear friendly, well‑spoken, or apologetic, and often try to keep the interaction moving quickly to prevent the victim from reacting.
Offenders target moments when attention is divided such as: In grocery store or mall parking lots, on sidewalks or near store entrances, while entering or exiting vehicles, when carrying groceries or other items.
