A Guelph man faces assault and weapons charges after a pellet gun was discharged towards a north-end residence.

Just after noon Sunday, police were called to an apartment building near Woolwich Street and Speedvale Avenue. A witness saw a man yelling a threatening remark while aiming a firearm towards a unit. He discharged the weapon twice before running away.

Officers responded and located the man attempting to flee the area. He was stopped and a pellet gun and two knives were located in his possession.

A 43-year-old Guelph man is charged with assault with a weapon, pointing a firearm, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose and three counts each of breaching a probation order and possessing a weapon contrary to an order. He was held for a bail hearing Monday.
