A Guelph man has been arrested in connection with so-called ‘bank investigator’ scams targeting older adults.
Last July, three Guelph residents in their 90s reported being contacted by people claiming to represent their banks. During these conversations the victims provided their banking information and were eventually convinced to hand over their debit and credit cards for destruction.
A man attended the victims’ homes and collected the cards, which were later used to make thousands of dollars in withdrawals and purchases.
On Saturday a 26-year-old Guelph man was arrested for two counts of fraud over $5,000 and seven counts of unauthorized use of a credit card. He will appear in a Guelph court July 3.
