Five drivers were arrested for impaired driving in separate incidents over the weekend, including one who assaulted a police officer during the arrest.

On Saturday afternoon, police were informed of a possible impaired driver who struck another vehicle in the parking lot of a Silvercreek Parkway North business. A witness spoke to the driver and believed she was impaired but the woman fled before police arrived.

An officer located the suspect at a nearby apartment building but as he approached she shoved him in the chest and tried to flee. She was arrested and transported to the police station, where she repeatedly refused to provide a breath sample.

A 52-year-old Guelph woman is charged with impaired driving, refusing to provide a breath sample, assault police, resisting arrest and failing to stop after an accident. She will appear in court March 3.
