High-speed joyride leads to charges

A Guelph man faces several charges after a vehicle was stolen from a Guelph dealership Tuesday and taken on a high-speed joyride.
Approximately 3:45 pm a 2024 Hyundai was stolen from a dealership on Woodlawn Road West after the keys were left inside. The vehicle’s GPS tracker showed it travelling between Guelph and Fergus, at one point reaching 151 km/h.
Just after 5:30 pm the vehicle was located outside a business near Watson Parkway North and Eastview Road. Members of the Guelph Police Service Break Enter Auto Theft Unit located a man in the area and recovered the key to the vehicle.
A 35-year-old Guelph man is charged with theft of motor vehicle, dangerous driving, four counts of driving while prohibited and two counts of breaching a probation order. He was held for a bail hearing Wednesday.
