A Guelph man was arrested for impaired driving Monday by an officer who had been waiting to speak to him about an unrelated driving complaint.

Just before 5 pm a member of the Guelph Police Traffic Services Unit was at an address near Paisley Road and Elmira Road South. The officer was looking for the driver of a car involved in a stunt driving incident earlier in the month.

The officer observed the car turning into the lot and approached the driver. He noted the man had an odour of alcohol on his breath and watery eyes.

The driver provided a roadside breath sample which resulted in a fail. He was arrested and transported to the police station where further tests confirmed he had more than the legal amount of alcohol in his system.

A 23-year-old Guelph man is charged with impaired driving. His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for seven days. He will appear in court February 13.
