Residents are reminded to be cautious when dealing with unknown individuals after a Guelph man lost nearly $20,000 to a bank scam.
This week, a man in his 90s reported he was contacted by someone he believed was from his bank as the bank’s toll-free phone number was on his call display. During the lengthy call he provided banking information and then was told his debit and credit cards had been compromised and that a courier would attend his address and collect them.
A short time later a man came to the victim’s home and was given the cards. The victim later realized his cards had been used to make $2,500 in cash withdrawals and almost $17,000 in purchases in Waterloo Region.
