A 29-year-old driver was pulled over for speeding Tuesday evening around 10 pm The driver’s speed was confirmed by radar going 106 km/h in a 60 km/h zone. When stopped, the driver could not produce his licence. The driver’s licence was suspended for 30 days and the vehicle he was driving was impounded for 14 days.
A stunt driving charge is applicable under the highway traffic act if a driver is driving a motor vehicle at a rate of speed that is 40 km/h or more over the speed limit, if the speed limit is less than 80 km/h. A stunt driving conviction will attract a minimum licence suspension of one year, a minimum fine of $2,000 and six demerit points. Drivers are also reminded that under the Ontario Highway Traffic Act, drivers are required to carry a valid driver’s licence along with vehicle registration and proof of insurance when operating a vehicle.
