Two drivers were taken off the road in Guelph this weekend after they were stopped for stunt driving.
Approximately 10:30 pm Friday a member of the Guelph Police Service Traffic Unit was stopped at a red light at Gordon Street and Edinburgh Road South when he heard a vehicle approaching from behind due to its loud exhaust.
He observed a Corvette making a quick U-turn, causing the rear end to fishtail and then speeding away. The officer turned around and followed the sports car, observing it travelling more than 100 km/h before finally pulling it over.
A 21-year-old Oakville man is charged with stunt driving, speeding and careless driving.
Just over 24 hours later, the same officer was conducting speed enforcement on Gordon Street at Maltby Road when he clocked a Nissan travelling 103 km/h in a posted 60 km/h zone. A 23-year-old Guelph man is charged with stunt driving and speeding.
Both drivers had their licences suspended for 30 days and their vehicles impounded for 14 days. A stunt driving conviction will attract a minimum licence suspension of one year, a minimum fine of $2,000 and six demerit points.
