On Sunday afternoon, while on routine patrol, a Guelph Police Officer was alerted by their automated license plate recognition system of a vehicle with an expired license plate.

Police stopped the vehicle in the area of Arkell Road and Victoria Road. The driver of the vehicle provided officers with a false ID, which had been reported stolen in 2024. Upon further investigation, it was found that the driver, a 36-year-old Guelph male, was currently suspended from driving under multiple suspensions and wanted currently wanted on the strength of a Bench Warrant.

The male was taken to the Guelph Police Station, where he was additionally charged with: Identity fraud, obstruct peace officer, Failure to comply with an undertaking, Failure to attend court, Operation while prohibited, Driving while under suspension, Drive motor vehicle, no currently validated permit. The male was held for a bail hearing and had their vehicle impounded for 45 days.
