A truck driver has been charged after a collision early last month that left a man seriously injured.

Approximately 4:40 pm February 9, emergency services were called to Gordon Street and Stone Road. Investigation revealed a man and woman, both 18, were crossing the street when the truck began turning. The man grabbed his girlfriend’s jacket and pulled her out of the truck’s path before losing his balance and falling down.

The truck driver tried to stop but the man was struck by the truck’s bumper and front wheel. The man’s injuries were initially thought not to be serious, however assessment at a Hamilton trauma centre revealed significant internal injuries which are expected to be life-altering. He has undergone several surgeries and remains in hospital.

On Monday a 41-year-old Ariss man was charged with careless driving causing bodily harm.
