(ESSA TOWNSHIP, ON) - Members of the Nottawasaga Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested and charged an individual following a series of incidents involving suspicious behaviour at residential properties.

On May 17, 2026, between 9:00 pm and midnight, officers responded to multiple calls for service reporting a suspicious person attending residences in Essa Township and looking into windows before leaving the area.

Shortly before midnight, police received an additional report that an individual matching the previous description attempted to gain entry to a residence by kicking the door. Entry was not gained.

Officers located the individual later that night, and they were subsequently placed under arrest without incident.

As a result of the investigation, Jamie MULHOLLAND, a 37-year-old of New Tecumseth, has been charged with:

  • Break and Enter a Dwelling House with Intent to Commit an Indictable Offence
  • Two counts of Trespassing at Night
  • Mischief - Destroy or Damage Property
  • Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose

The accused was held pending a bail hearing.

The Ontario Provincial Police reminds residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity in their neighbourhood. Simple measures such as ensuring doors and windows are locked, keeping exterior lighting on, and contacting police to report suspicious persons can help prevent incidents and enhance community safety.
