TRAFFIC STOP IN ESSA TOWNSHIP LEADS TO DRUG TRAFFICKING CHARGES

(ESSA TOWNSHIP, ON) - Members of the Nottawasaga Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged one individual with drug trafficking following a traffic stop in Angus while on proactive patrols.
Shortly after 8:00 am on May 26, 2026, an officer while out on proactive patrols in Essa Township observed a vehicle come to a stop, the vehicle being shut off and the driver climbed into the passenger seat of the vehicle before attempting to hide from police. The officer conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle.
The driver of the vehicle was known to police and had outstanding warrants. The driver was arrested and police located a bag of suspected cocaine inside the vehicle along with a scale and a large amount of Canadian currency.
As a result of the investigation, Sheri CRAWFORD, a 54-year-old of Essa Township, has been charged with:
- Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking - cocaine
- Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5000
The accused was held for a Bail hearing.
