(OXFORD COUNTY, ON) - The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is aware of a video circulating on social media in relation to the enforcement of a police‑enforceable court order involving an elderly individual in Norwich Township.
On Friday, April 3, 2026, Oxford County OPP officers attended a residence under the authority of a valid court order in relation to a family dispute involving the care of an elderly individual. At this time, no enforcement action has been taken. Police involvement in this matter is strictly limited to enforcing a court order and ensuring the safety and well-being of all involved.
The OPP is also aware of misinformation circulating online. To be clear, the court order is not related to, nor does it involve, Canada’s Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID) legislation. Police do not have any role in authorizing, administering or facilitating MAID. Any comments or claims suggesting otherwise are false.
The OPP urges the public to refrain from speculation due to the sensitive legal and personal circumstances. As this matter involves private individuals, the OPP will not provide further details.
The OPP does not issue or amend court orders. Questions regarding the legal authority of a court order should be directed to the Ministry of the Attorney General.
