DRIVER FACING IMPAIRED CHARGES

(SOUTHGATE, ON) - A Southgate resident is facing impaired driving-related charges after officers on patrol observed an off‑road vehicle offence in Dundalk.
On Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at approximately 9:45 pm, Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on general patrol when they observed two occupants on an ATV who were not wearing helmets at the intersection of VanDusen Avenue and Elm Street in Dundalk.
A traffic stop was initiated. Officers spoke with the driver and detected an odour of alcohol. As a result, an impaired driving investigation was commenced, and the driver was subsequently arrested.
Alfredo COREAS, 26 years old, of Southgate, has been charged with the following offences:
- Operation while Impaired - Alcohol (Criminal Code)
- Operation while Impaired - 80 Plus (Criminal Code)
- Operation while Prohibited (Criminal Code)
- Fail to Wear Helmet (Off‑Road Vehicles Act)
- Drive Motor Vehicle with Open Container of Liquor (Liquor Licence and Control Act)
A 90‑day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a 45 day vehicle impoundment were initiated as required by statute.
A second individual, a 40‑year‑old from Melancthon, was also charged with:
- Fail to Wear Helmet (Off‑Road Vehicles Act)
COREAS was later released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on June 4, 2026.
The Grey Bruce OPP is reminding all off‑road vehicle riders that wearing an approved helmet is mandatory and is one of the most effective ways to prevent serious injury or death. Helmets must be:
- Properly fitted
- Securely fastened
- Approved for off‑road use
Riding without a helmet dramatically increases the risk of head trauma, even at low speeds or on short trips.
