OPP INVESTIGATES DROWNING INCIDENT IN SOUTH BRUCE PENINSULA

(SOUTH BRUCE PENINSULA, ON) - On Monday, July 14, 2025, at approximately 6:00 pm, members of the Grey Bruce Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), South Bruce Peninsula Fire Department and Bruce County Paramedic Services, responded to a report of a capsized canoe on Lake Huron, near Howdenvale.
Three individuals were canoeing when their vessel overturned. Two individuals managed to swim safely to shore. A third individual, a 32-year-old male, did not immediately resurface.
Bystanders were able to recover the male from the water and attempted to administer CPR. Upon the arrival of emergency responders, he was then transported to hospital by EMS, where he was pronounced deceased.
