SOUTHGATE RESIDENT CHARGED FOLLOWING ON‑ICE ASSAULT
(SOUTHGATE, ON) - Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a Southgate resident in connection with a serious on‑ice assault that occurred during a recreational hockey tournament.
On March 23, 2026, Grey Bruce OPP became aware of an incident that took place at a sports facility in the Township of Southgate on March 21, 2026. Police learned that a men’s recreational hockey tournament was underway at a local arena when, during one of the games, a player was assaulted on the ice. The victim sustained serious injuries as a result of the incident.
Following the investigation, on April 16, 2026, police arrested and charged Robert VANALSTINE, 26-years-old, from Southgate, with the following Criminal Code offence:
- Aggravated Assault (CC)
The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on July 9, 2026.
