Hamilton Police have made an arrest in connection with a serious stabbing that occurred earlier this year in the city’s east end.

On Friday, January 2, 2026, officers responded to a stabbing at 553 Queenston Road (Red Rose Motel). An adult female sustained serious injuries and was transported to hospital for treatment. She has since survived.

As the investigation progressed, the Homicide Unit assumed carriage of the investigation. A suspect was identified and a Canada-wide warrant was issued when he could not be immediately located.

On March 2, 2026, the accused was located in the Greater Toronto Area and safely arrested without incident.

Joel Benjamin, 34 years old, has been charged with:

  • Attempted Murder
  • Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking (CDSA 5(2))

At the time of his arrest, investigators seized a quantity of suspected controlled substances, including a significant amount of suspected fentanyl.

Benjamin was arrested in the company of a 36-year-old Toronto man, who has been charged with:

  • Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking (CDSA 5(2))
  • Proceeds of Crime Over $5,000

Police also seized approximately $30,000 in gold bars.

Benjamin was held in custody pending a bail hearing. The second accused was also held pending a judicial hearing.
