Youth Arrested in School Threat Incident

On Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at approximately 11:51 am, police responded to a reported bomb threat at Highview Public Elementary School. The threat was received by school staff which indicated that an explosive device would detonate later that afternoon.
As a precaution, school officials initiated an evacuation plan, and approximately 500 students and staff were safely relocated to a nearby secondary school. Officers conducted a thorough search of the school and surrounding property. No explosive devices or suspicious items were located.
The school was cleared, and students were safely dismissed from the alternate location.
Members of the Criminal Investigation Division continued the investigation and identified a suspect in connection with the threat. A 13-year-old Hamilton youth has been charged with:
- Public Mischief
- Uttering Threats to Cause Bodily Harm
The accused cannot be identified under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
