Hamilton Police have arrested a suspect following two incidents on April 13, 2026, in which a male posed as a police officer and targeted unsuspecting individuals.

The first incident occurred at approximately 8:00 am in the area of Cannon Street East and Wellington Street North. The victim had just exited a store when they were called over to a black vehicle by the suspect, who remained seated inside. The suspect claimed to be an undercover police officer and stated that the victim matched a suspect from a recent investigation. He directed the victim to surrender their wallet for identification purposes and fled after receiving it.

A second incident occurred later that morning at approximately 9:30 am near King Street and Ashley Street. In this case, the victim was approached by the same suspect, who again identified himself as an undercover police officer. The suspect told the victim they were being detained in relation to a bike theft investigation. He conducted a pat-down search and removed the victim’s cell phone and debit card. The suspect indicated he needed to return to his vehicle to place the items in an evidence bag but did not return.

Through investigation, including the review of CCTV footage and follow-up with victims, officers were able to identify the suspect and the vehicle involved.

Andrew WHITE, 25, of Hamilton, has been arrested and charged with:

  • Impersonating a Peace Officer
  • Theft Under $5,000
