Hamilton Police make arrest in Oxford shooting

The Hamilton Police Service - Shooting Response Team continues to investigate the shooting which occurred outside of 40 Oxford Street on April 17, 2026.
The Shooting Response Team, with assistance from Detectives with the Division 10 Criminal Investigation Division (CID) and Uniform Patrol, have executed a Search Warrant at an apartment inside 40 Oxford which is believed to be associated to the shooting. A police presence will remain at 40 Oxford Street until the Search Warrant is completed.
Yesterday, April 18, 2026, Detectives with the Shooting Response Team, with assistance with Division 10 Uniform Patrol, arrested and charged an individual in connection with this investigation.
26-year-old Yonis MOHAMED of Hamilton has been charged with the following offences:
- Robbery with Firearm;
- Assault with a Weapon;
- Fail to Comply with Probation Order.
He has been held in custody for a bail hearing.
Investigators are still seeking to identify a second suspect in connection with this shooting. The suspect is believed to be male, black, believed to be mid 20’s to early 30s, 5’6”-5’8” tall, average build wearing dark blue sweater and dark pants.
Detectives with the Shooting Response Team believe that this shooting was associated to a robbery which occurred on Oxford Street. While no injuries were reported as a result of the shooting, the victim of the robbery suffered minor injuries from an assault.
