On January 21, 2026, the Hamilton Police Service Central Division High Enforcement Action Team (HEAT) arrested a 49-year-old Hamilton man as part of ongoing police efforts to address community concerns related to open drug use and social disorder in the downtown core.

Officers were conducting focused patrols and surveillance in the area of the Salvation Army and Jackson Square, a location identified through community complaints. During the investigation, officers observed William MAHON, 49, meeting with suspected customers near the York Boulevard entrance to Jackson Square.

As officers approached, MAHON was observed holding a clear bag containing yellow-coloured fentanyl. He was arrested, and a search incident to arrest resulted in the seizure of a quantity of illegal substances, cash, and drug-related items.

This arrest reflects the Hamilton Police Service’s continued work to address drug-related activity in areas of concern and to support a downtown environment that is safe, welcoming, and enjoyable for residents, visitors, and businesses.
