Hamilton Police continue to investigate an early morning shooting on the West Mountain, resulting in the arrest of a 17-year-old male and the recovery of a firearm. One suspect remains outstanding.

At approximately 7:30 am on Thursday, June 6, 2024, Hamilton Police received a 911 call from a 38-year-old man reporting that he had been shot. Uniform Patrol officers promptly responded, gathered initial information, and initiated an investigation. Shortly thereafter, police received reports of two suspicious individuals wearing masks running into a wooded area. Officers attended the scene, located, and arrested a 17-year-old suspect, recovering a firearm during the arrest. The search for the second suspect continued through a golf course, trails and and rural treed areas. As of 1:20 pm, the second suspect remains outstanding.

The outstanding suspect is described as a black male, wearing a gray hoodie and dark blue pants, and was seen wearing a blue surgical mask at the time of the incident.

Investigators have recovered the stolen black SUV linked to the suspects. The 38-year-old shooting victim remains hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

The arrested 17-year-old male is facing multiple charges, including:

  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
  • Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000
  • Two Counts of Breach of Recognizance
  • Possession of a Prohibited Firearm
  • Discharge Firearm with Intent
  • Aggravated Assault
  • Occupant of Motor Vehicle Knowing There was a Firearm

Investigators have confirmed that the 911 shooting call, the suspicious individual report, and the recovered stolen vehicle are all connected to the initial shooting incident.

The investigation is ongoing as police continue efforts to identify the second suspect involved in the shooting. Investigators thank the public for their assistance, which has been crucial in the timely identification of an offender who was involved in recklessly discharging a firearm in public.
