The Hamilton Police Service is continuing to investigate a homicide that occurred in Stoney Creek in March 2025 and is appealing to the public for information.

On Thursday, March 6, 2025, at approximately 4:20 am, Hamilton Police received several 911 calls reporting a shooting in the area of Highway 8 and Fruitland Road. Officers responded and located two vehicles involved in a collision just east of the intersection—a white Kia sedan and a red Acura SUV.

The driver of the Acura, 16-year-old Faizaan Awan, was found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to hospital where he later died from his injuries.

Investigators believe this was a targeted incident. Police have determined that Awan was chased for several kilometers before the shooting occurred near Highway 8 and Fruitland Road.

Investigators know multiple vehicles were involved in the pursuit. In addition to the Acura and Kia found at the scene, a silver Infiniti was also involved in the chase and was later recovered in the area. Other vehicles believed to be involved remain outstanding.

Two additional occupants were inside the Acura at the time of the shooting. One sustained a minor gunshot wound and received treatment at a later date. Both have been interviewed by Police.

The Homicide Unit has spent the past year reviewing video footage and interviewing witnesses as part of the ongoing investigation. Investigators believe multiple firearms were used during the incident, however the weapons have not been recovered.

Police believe there are individuals who know what happened and why Faizaan Awan was targeted but have not yet come forward.
