Hamilton Police have arrested a male after a he unleashed a chaotic and dangerous series of events in the downtown core.

On Sunday February 9, 2025 at approximately 4:15 p.m, a lone male was observed loitering in the main lobby of the Salvation Army located at 94 York Boulevard. The male intentionally ignited a fire within the building and then left on foot. The fire caused approximately $150,000 worth of damage and was extinguished by the Hamilton Fire Department.

A short time later, the same male entered Jackson Square located at 2 King Street West and was confronted by security guards regarding an ongoing trespass order. The suspect refused to comply with their demands and proceeded to arm himself with multiple large knives. Further, the male then produced an imitation firearm and made threats to shoot people around him.

Officers quickly and safely captured the male and placed him under arrest. The 27-year-old male of no-fixed-address was charged with the following:

  • Fail to comply probation x 10
  • Assault with a weapon x 4
  • Utter threats to cause death or bodily harm x 4
  • Use imitation firearm during commission of offence x 4
  • Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
  • Arson - disregard for human life
  • Possession incendiary material

Thankfully, there were no injuries reported to Police as a result of these events.
