On January 15, 2025, Detectives from the Hamilton Police BEAR Unit observed stolen vehicles linked to warm-up vehicle theft investigations. Detectives witnessed a stolen vehicle drop off two people at another stolen vehicle, then it fled the area at a high rate of speed. Investigators maintained their focus on the two individuals who had entered the second vehicle and quickly arrested them before they could flee. The investigation further revealed that this vehicle had been used in a gas theft the previous evening. The youths were charged with the following:

16 year old male youth from Hamilton

  • Possession Over $5,000
  • Occupy Stolen Motor Vehicle x 2
  • Theft Under $5,000 – Gasoline

16 year old female youth from Hamilton

  • Possession Over $5,000
  • Occupy Stolen Motor Vehicle x 1

Hamilton Police urge members of our community to consider the following to prevent their vehicle from theft.

  1. Never leave your vehicle running and unattended. Always take your keys with you, even for short periods.
  2. Lock your doors. A locked vehicle is a less attractive target.
  3. Use a steering wheel lock or other visible anti-theft devices. These deter potential thieves.
  4. Install a remote start system. Remote start allows your vehicle to warm up while remaining locked and secure.
  5. If you are a delivery person, do not leave your vehicle running unattended, even for a few seconds. Opportunistic thieves often target these situations.
