Hamilton Police have charged a second suspect in relation to a hate-motivated assault from October 2025.

On October 25, 2025, at approximately 9:40 pm a 21-year-old female victim was walking across the parking lot at an Ancaster retail plaza. Without provocation, a silver sedan approached the victim, and an occupant of the vehicle threw a beverage cup at her, striking her in the face. During the assault, the accused made racist remarks toward the victim and threatened her.

The victim ran from the area and hid to get away from the occupants of the vehicle. Police were called and began an investigation.

Investigators later identified the driver and front-seat passenger of the vehicle involved. Two 17-year-olds have now been arrested and charged with assault with a weapon and uttering threats to cause death.

Hamilton Police have determined the incident was racially motivated. If the accused are convicted, police will ask the court to consider the hate-motivation sentencing provision under section 718.2(a)(i) of the Criminal Code of Canada.
