Members of the Hamilton Police Service Break and Enter, Auto Theft and Robbery (B.E.A.R.) Unit have arrested and charged two individuals in connection with a series of deliberately set fires at a residence in the Stipley neighbourhood.
On December 13, 2025, B.E.A.R. Unit investigators were first alerted to a suspicious fire at a Stipley residence. Further investigation determined that the home and an associated outbuilding were intentionally set on fire on four separate occasions: December 14, 2025; December 23, 2025; and January 12, 2026. The repeated arsons resulted in approximately $100,000 in damage. As part of the investigation, police executed a Criminal Code Section 487 search warrant at a residence on the Hamilton Mountain.
As a result of the investigation, a 28-year-old Hamilton man, Nicholas Tomasetti (Chine), has been charged with Arson – Damage to Property (four counts), Break and Enter (two counts), and Possession of Incendiary Materials (four counts).
A 23-year-old Hamilton woman, Kayla HARRIS, has been charged with Arson – Damage to Property and Possession of Incendiary Materials.
Police are opposing bail for both accused. The investigation remains active and ongoing, and additional charges may be laid. Investigators have determined that the incidents were specific in nature and directed toward a single location, and there are no indicators suggesting a broader pattern of risk.
