Update: Arrest made in Waterdown homicide

Hamilton Police homicide investigators have made an arrest in one of the City’s latest homicides.
On Friday March 6, 2025, Dirk “Jeff” Nyhuis was found deceased inside of his home in Waterdown. The cause of his death was deemed to be from a gunshot wound which police now know occurred on March 3, 2025.
Some of the details surrounding this incident are still unclear, however investigators do not believe that this was a robbery or drug related. Both the accused and Nyhuis were known to each other, but the interaction between the two at the time of the incident is still under investigation.
Earlier this week, officers travelled to a rural town in Alberta and arrested 40-year-old Cory Mahoney for 2nd degree murder. He was transported back to Hamilton to go before the courts.
