On Thursday September 26, 2024, shortly after 3:30 pm, a collision occurred in the eastbound lane of Barton Street East at Barnesdale Avenue North.
A 74-year-old male from Hamilton was driving his Harley Davidson motorcycle eastbound on Barton Street East, approaching Barnesdale Avenue North. A Jeep Cherokee, driven by a 59-year-old male from St Catharines, was westbound on Barton Street East and made a left turn across the eastbound lanes. The motorcycle struck the side of the turning Jeep which caused the motorcycle rider to eject from the bike. The motorcycle rider was transported to hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.
After conducting a thorough investigation into the tragic collision, the Hamilton Police Collision Reconstruction Unit determined that the Jeep Cherokee driver was not at fault. As a result, no charges will be pursued.
