UPDATE: Shots Fired Near Melvin Avenue

Hamilton Police are investigating a shooting that occurred on a foot path in the area of Melvin Avenue and Talbot Street.
On Thursday, December 18, 2025, at approximately 4:00 am, Hamilton Police were called to the area of Melvin Avenue following reports of gunshots. Community members reported hearing several loud bangs coming from the Red Hill Valley Trail.
Investigators determined that a vehicle arrived at the corner of Talbot Street and Melvin Avenue at approximately 4:00 am Four individuals exited the vehicle and walked into the Red Hill Valley Trail. Moments later, gunshots were heard.
Officers flooded the area and located a large number of spent bullet casings on a foot path near Melvin Avenue and Talbot Street. At this time, more than twenty casings have been recovered, representing two different bullet types. There is no known victim, no reported injuries, and no damage located at this time. There is also no known intended target.
Investigators are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the vehicle or individuals involved.

Residents and drivers in the area are asked to check any CCTV or dashcam footage between 3:30 am and 4:30 am for suspicious activity.
