Hamilton Police have arrested three youths in connection with a stolen vehicle investigation in Hamilton’s east end. The incident reflects a continued rise in youth crime across the city and highlights the public safety risks associated with stolen vehicles.

On February 10, 2026, Hamilton Police responded to a 911 call regarding a suspicious vehicle occupied by masked individuals. Officers confirmed the vehicle had previously been reported stolen.

Members of Uniform Patrol, the BEAR Unit, and Division 20 HEAT Unit located the vehicle travelling in the community. While officers maintained surveillance, the vehicle was observed driving in a dangerous manner, including:

  • Travelling at a high rate of speed
  • Making unsafe lane changes
  • Failing to stop for traffic signals
  • Engaging in counter-surveillance driving behaviour

Due to the manner in which the vehicle was being operated, officers discontinued active surveillance in the interest of public safety.

The vehicle was later located parked and unoccupied. Through continued investigation, officers observed the involved youths in the area before they attended a nearby retail business. Officers entered the store shortly after and arrested three youths without incident. At the time of arrest, officers determined the youths were engaged in activity consistent with further criminal behaviour. During a search incident to arrest, one youth was found in possession of a key fob belonging to the stolen vehicle. The vehicle was recovered and towed for further forensic examination.

One of the youths was bound by multiple court-imposed conditions at the time of arrest, including restrictions related to motor vehicles and associations with a co-accused. That youth was also wanted on outstanding warrants.

Under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the identities of the young persons cannot be released.

A 15-year-old male is charged with:

  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000
  • Fail to Comply with Release Order X4
  • Fail to Comply with Youth Probation

He was held for a bail hearing and police opposed his release.

A 13-year-old male is charged with:

  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000

A 12-year-old male is charged with:

  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000

The 13- and 12-year-old youths were released on undertakings pending future court appearances. Although charges have been laid, the investigation remains ongoing.
