15 DRIVERS CHARGED FOR DRIVING ON CLOSED HIGHWAY

(NORTH BAY) - Members of the North Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) laid multiple charges after motorists failed to comply with a full highway closure on Highway 11 following a serious collision.
On April 12, 2026, at approximately 7:30 am, officers responded to a two‑vehicle collision involving a commercial motor vehicle and a pickup truck on Highway 11, north of North Bay. The collision resulted in extensive debris being scattered across the roadway and a pickup truck entering the ditch.
The pickup truck driver was transported to hospital with serious injuries. While the injuries were not immediately life‑threatening, they were assessed as significant. As a result, Highway 11 was fully closed for several hours while investigative efforts continued. The highway reopened fully at approximately 2:00 pm The driver of the pickup truck was charged with careless driving.
Despite clear signage indicating that Highway 11 was closed, several drivers proceeded onto the closed section of roadway. Officers laid 15 charges for Drive on a closed Highway. In addition, one commercial motor vehicle driver was charged with Drive - handheld communication device.
