(POWASSAN) - A 28-year-old Sarnia resident is facing impaired driving charges after officers located and stopped a vehicle following a 911 report of a suspected impaired driver on Highway 11.

On Sunday, March 15, 2026, at approximately 6:00 am, the North Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a 911 call reporting a vehicle travelling southbound on Highway 11 in the Callander area that was swerving across lanes, striking guardrails, and travelling at greatly varying speeds.

Officers located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop on the Clark Street exit ramp in Powassan. During the stop, officers observed signs consistent with impairment by alcohol. The driver was arrested and transported to the North Bay OPP Detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Eric DE SENA, 28 years of age, of Sarnia, has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay on April 7, 2026. The driver was also issued a 90‑day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS), and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
