NORTH BAY OPP ARREST 12 INDIVIDUALS FOR IMPAIRED DRIVING IN MAY

(NORTH BAY) - Members of the North Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested 12 individuals for impaired driving-related offences in May 2026.
As previously released, on Saturday, May 2, 2026, a 27-year-old driver from Callander was charged with operation while impaired in North Bay.
Further incidents include the following:
1. On Saturday, May 9, 2026, at approximately 7:00 am, the North Bay OPP conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in a commercial lot on Highway 11/17 in North Bay. During the interaction, the officer observed signs consistent with impairment by drugs. The driver was arrested and transported to the North Bay OPP Detachment for further testing. A search of the vehicle, incident to arrest, resulted in the seizure of suspected crystal methamphetamine.
Jesse LAVIGNE, 36 years of age, of North Bay, has been charged with:
- Operation while impaired - drugs
- Operation while impaired - blood drug concentration
- Possession of a Schedule I substance - methamphetamine
- Driving while under suspension
The accused was released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay on July 7, 2026.
2. On Sunday, May 10, 2026, at approximately 7:00 am, the North Bay OPP conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in a commercial lot on Highway 11/17 in North Bay. During the investigation, officers observed suspected cannabis in the centre console and signs consistent with drug impairment. The driver was arrested and transported to the detachment for further testing.
Orville RENAUD, 76 years of age, of East Ferris, has been charged with:
- Operation while impaired - drugs
- Failure or refusal to comply with demand
- Have care or control of vehicle with cannabis readily available
The accused was released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay on July 7, 2026.
3. On Sunday, May 10, 2026, at approximately 8:00 pm, the North Bay OPP conducted a traffic stop on Highway 17 in East Ferris Township after observing a vehicle exhibiting aggressive driving behaviour. During the interaction, officers noted signs of alcohol impairment. The driver was arrested and transported for further testing.
Kevin ANDERSON, 65 years of age, of Sudbury, has been charged with:
- Operation while impaired - alcohol
- Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
The accused was released and is scheduled to appear in court on June 2, 2026.
4. On Monday, May 11, 2026, at approximately 11:00 pm, the North Bay OPP conducted a traffic stop on Nova Beaucage Road in Nipissing First Nation. Officers observed signs consistent with alcohol impairment, and the driver was arrested and transported for testing.
Katherine BEAUCAGE, 47 years of age, of Nipissing First Nation, has been charged with:
- Operation while impaired - alcohol
- Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
The accused is scheduled to appear in court on June 16, 2026.
5. On Sunday, May 17, 2026, at approximately 7:45 pm, the North Bay OPP responded to a traffic complaint of a vehicle performing burnouts in a parking lot off Neault Road in Papineau-Cameron Township. Officers located the vehicle and observed signs of alcohol impairment. The driver was arrested and transported for testing.
Jayden LONSDALE, 26 years of age, of North Bay, has been charged with:
- Operation while impaired - alcohol
- Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
- Drive motor vehicle - perform stunt - tire burnout
The accused is scheduled to appear in court on June 2, 2026.
6. On Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at approximately 8:00 pm, the North Bay OPP responded to a traffic complaint of a speeding vehicle. Officers observed the vehicle travelling 153 km/h in a posted 100 km/h zone on Highway 11 South in North Bay. During the stop, signs of alcohol impairment were observed, and the driver was arrested.
Cecil MARTIN-HOUNSELL, 40 years of age, of Cochrane, has been charged with:
- Operation while impaired - alcohol
- Fail to comply with probation order
- Drive motor vehicle - perform stunt - excessive speed
The accused is scheduled to appear in court on June 30, 2026.
7. On Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at approximately 5:30 pm, the North Bay OPP, along with emergency medical services and fire services, responded to a report of a single-vehicle collision on private property on First Street in Callander. The driver was initially unresponsive but later stabilized and transported to hospital. Officers observed signs of drug impairment during the investigation.
Rene GAREAU, 42 years of age, of West Nipissing, has been charged with:
- Operation while impaired - drugs
- Operation while impaired - blood drug concentration
The accused is scheduled to appear in court on July 2, 2026.
8. On Friday, May 22, 2026, at approximately 3:30 pm, the North Bay OPP conducted marine safety checks on Lake Nosbonsing. During an inspection, officers observed signs of alcohol impairment from a vessel operator. The operator was arrested and transported for testing.
James PEGG, 51 years of age, of St. Anns, has been charged with:
- Operation while impaired - alcohol
- Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
- Operating boat underway with liquor not in a closed compartment
- Failure to wear a personal flotation device or lifejacket in an open vessel if device is of inflatable type
- Failure to have proof of competency on board a pleasure craft
The accused is scheduled to appear in court on June 16, 2026.
9. On Sunday, May 24, 2026, at approximately 2:45 am, the North Bay OPP observed a vehicle on Highway 11/17 exhibiting erratic driving behaviour. A traffic stop was conducted on Bromley Avenue. Officers observed six occupants in a five-seat vehicle, and the driver showed signs of alcohol impairment. The driver was arrested.
Scott WAGG, 37 years of age, of Temagami, has been charged with:
- Operation while impaired - alcohol
- Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
Further investigation revealed that another individual had been driving and switched seats prior to the stop.
Rajiv DAVIDSON, 41 years of age, of North Bay, has been charged with:
- Failure or refusal to comply with demand
- Driving while under suspension
- Drive motor vehicle - perform stunt - driver fail to occupy driver seat
Both accused are scheduled to appear in court on July 7, 2026.
10. On Sunday, May 31, 2026, at approximately 12:00 pm, the North Bay OPP conducted a traffic stop for speeding on Golf Course Road in Powassan. During the investigation, officers observed signs consistent with alcohol impairment.
Matthew MICHNA, 53 years of age, of Claremont, has been charged with:
- Operation while impaired - alcohol
The accused is scheduled to appear in court on July 7, 2026.
All drivers charged with impaired driving-related offences were also issued 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspensions (ADLS), and the motor vehicles were impounded for seven days.
