MULTI-VEHICLE COLLISION INVOLVING COMMERCIAL MOTOR VEHICLE

(NORTH BAY, ON) - The North Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a driver and company after a multi-vehicle collision that occurred at the intersection of Highway 11 and Airport Road in the City of North Bay.
On May 28, 2026, at approximately 6:10 pm, members of the North Bay OPP, North Bay Fire and Emergency Services, and District of Nipissing Paramedic Services responded to reports of a collision involving multiple vehicles, including a commercial motor vehicle (CMV). One individual was transported to hospital by ambulance with minor injuries.
Initial investigation determined that a southbound CMV on Highway 11 failed to stop for a red light at the intersection of Airport Road. The CMV collided with a passenger vehicle and continued southbound, striking additional vehicles.
The Ministry of Transportation (MTO) attended the scene and conducted a comprehensive inspection of the commercial motor vehicle. Multiple critical defects were identified, and the tractor portion of the CMV was subsequently placed out of service and its licence plates were removed. As a result of the investigation and inspection, a 29-year-old driver from Waskatenau, AB, has been charged with:
- Operate unsafe vehicle - commercial motor vehicle
- Fail to ensure daily inspection is conducted properly
- Fail to enter defect in daily inspection report
- Drive commercial motor vehicle with a major defect
- Push rod stroke exceeds prescribed limit - commercial motor vehicle
- Wheel brake rendered inoperable - commercial motor vehicle
- Careless driving
- Red light - fail to stop
- Disobey sign
- Drive commercial motor vehicle with no valid CVOR certificate
Additionally, a commercial carrier based out of Brampton has been charged with:
- Permit operation of unsafe combination of vehicles - commercial motor vehicle
- Fail to ensure performance standards are met
- Fail to ensure daily inspection is conducted properly
- Brakes inadequate to stop combination of vehicles - commercial motor vehicle
- Push rod stroke exceeds prescribed limit - commercial motor vehicle
- Wheel brake rendered inoperable - commercial motor vehicle
