OPP Seeks Public’s Help to Solve 1999 Double Homicide

(SOUTHWOLD, ON) - The Elgin County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is once again seeking the public’s assistance to solve a double homicide that took place 27 years ago. The Province of Ontario is offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for the deaths of Roger Smith and Wendy Haveron.

During the early morning hours of Tuesday, February 2, 1999, Southwold Fire Department and Elgin County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a house fire on Wellington Road where two people were located deceased. An investigation concluded that the couple had died as a result of blunt force trauma and confirmed that the fire at their residence was deliberately set. Both deaths were ruled as homicides.

Police and family members believe that someone may have information regarding the deaths of Roger and Wendy. Investigators are appealing to the public for any information that may help solve these serious crimes. Even information that may seem insignificant could prove crucial to the investigation.
