DRIVER CHARGED FOR CONTRABAND TOBACCO IN HALDIMAND COUNTY

(HALDIMAND, ON) - On May 26, 2026, at approximately 6:30 pm, a member of the Haldimand County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on Argyle Street South in the County of Haldimand.
While speaking with the driver regarding the traffic stop, the attending officer observed several boxes of suspected illegal cigarettes in plain view inside the vehicle.
An on-scene investigation was subsequently conducted. As a result of the investigation, the driver, a 67‑year‑old from Stouffville, Ontario, was found to be in possession of contraband cigarettes in violation of the Tobacco Tax Act.
The individual was charged with the following offences under the Tobacco Tax Act:
- Possession of Unmarked Cigarettes for Sale, - Possession of Unmarked Cigarettes
All boxes of illegal cigarettes were seized and secured as evidence.
The accused was released from the scene with a court appearance date of August 14, 2026, at the Ontario Court of Justice in Haldimand.
