(HURON EAST, ON) - Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a South Huron resident with an impaired driving offence following a traffic stop in the Municipality of Huron East on January 18, 2026.

Just after 6:30 pm, on Sunday, January 18, 2026, Huron County OPP officers were conducting Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) checks on Brussels Line, in the Village of Walton. Officers spoke to a vehicle driver who was subsequently arrested for impaired operation. The accused was transported to the Huron OPP detachment in Clinton where they provided breath samples before a qualified Intoxilyzer Breath Technician. Breath samples were provided to police which resulted in readings over the legal limit.

Benjamin VANGERWEN, 29-years-of-age from South Huron has been charged with:

  • Operation while Impaired - Over 80

The vehicle involved was towed and impounded for seven days, and the accused’ driver’s license was suspended for a period of 90 days.

The accused was processed and later released from custody with a court appearance scheduled at the Ontario Court of Justice - Goderich on March 02, 2026.
