COLLISION IN HURON EAST RESULTS IN A FATALITY

Charges laid

(HURON EAST, ON) - A two-vehicle collision in the Municipality of Huron East claimed the life of a North Huron resident on Tuesday, February 17, 2026. Members of the Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Huron County Paramedic Services, and Huron East Fire Department responded to a collision on North Line just north of Hydro Line Road in Huron East.

Upon arrival, emergency services located the involved vehicles, a pickup truck and a passenger car, both heavily damaged. The lone driver of the pickup truck was treated for minor injuries. The elderly sedan driver was seriously injured and transported by ambulance to a London Hospital. A passenger in the sedan was treated for minor injuries.

On February 20, 2026, the 84-year-old sedan driver from North Huron died because of their injuries sustained in the collision.

Members from the West Region OPP Traffic Incident Management & Enforcement (TIME) Team assisted with the collision investigation.

As a result of the investigation, the 36-year-old driver of the involved pickup truck has been charged with the following offences:

  • Careless Driving Causing Death, - Driver - Fail to Properly Wear Seatbelt

The accused will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice - Goderich.
