OPP ARREST DRIVER AFTER FAILING TO STOP FOR POLICE ON HIGHWAY 26

(CLEARVIEW TOWNSHIP, ON) - Members from the Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) laid charges after a motorist fled from police.
On Friday, May 15, 2026, shortly after 3:00 pm, Huronia West officers began a traffic investigation on Highway 26 when the vehicle, a white pickup truck, failed to stop for police. A spike belt was utilized and caused damage to the vehicle, which was later located in a parking lot on Bayfield Street in the City of Barrie. With the assistance of Barrie Police Service, the driver of the vehicle was arrested.
As a result of the investigation Tyson CROSS, 23-years-old from Peterborough, was charged with several offences, including the below Criminal Code offences:
- Dangerous operation
- Flight from peace officer
- Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
- Unauthorized possession of weapon
- Possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order
The accused was held in custody to appear for a bail hearing on Saturday, May 16, 2026.
