ONE PERSON IS CHARGED AFTER POLICE RESPONDED TO A RESIDENCE IN THE FRENCH RIVER AREA

(FRENCH RIVER, ON) - The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested and charged a person after responding to a residence in the French River area.

On Sunday March 22, 2026, at approximately 6:30 am, members from the Nipissing West Detachment of the OPP, responded to an assault at a residence in the French River area.

An individual had physically assaulted and threaten to harm their partner, who had received minor injuries and was transported to the area hospital.

A search of the residence located firearms belonging to the accused.

As a result of the investigation, a 26-year-old person, from the French River area, was arrested and charged with, - Assault- two counts

  • Assault cause bodily harm - choke, suffocate or strangle - two counts
  • Uttering threats
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm

The accused was held for Bail Court, then remanded back into custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in the near future, in Sudbury.

The OPP will not release the name of the accused in order to protect the T of the victim.
