PROHIBITED DRIVER IS CHARGED ON HIGHWAY 17

(SUDBURY, ON) - One person was arrested and charged after police conducted a traffic stop with a prohibited driver.
On Friday May 29, 2026, at approximately 12:00 pm, members from the Nipissing West (Sudbury) Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on general patrol and conducted a traffic stop with a vehicle on Highway 17, Sudbury.
As a result of the investigation, Wayne PITAWANAKWAT, 59 years old, from Wikwemikong Unceded Reserve First Nation, was arrested and charged with, operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code
The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on June 24, 2026, in Sudbury. The vehicle was impounded for 45-days, at the cost of the owner.
