(SUDBURY, ON) - The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested and charged one person with impaired driving after investigating a motor vehicle collision.

On Tuesday April 7, 2026, at approximately 10:00 pm, members from the Nipissing West (Sudbury) Detachment of the OPP, responded to a two-vehicle collision on Highway 17, Sudbury. No injuries were reported.

One vehicle failed to remain at the scene of the collision and was later located by police. The driver of that vehicle was arrested for impaired operation of a motor vehicle, then transported to the OPP detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Jay HURLEY, 42 years old, from Sudbury was charged with, - Operation while impaired - alcohol

  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Dangerous operation
  • Fail to remain

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on May 20, 2026, in Sudbury.

The driver was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

  • Stop immediately and remain at the scene
  • Check for injuries and call emergency services if required

  • Report the collision to police when required

Remaining at the scene is not only a legal requirement, but a responsibility to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone involved.
