One Person Charged

(WEST NIPISSING, ON) - The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has arrested and charged one person in relation to a double fatal collision earlier this year.

On Saturday, January 24, 2026, at approximately 11:40 pm, members of the Nipissing West Detachment of the OPP responded to a two-vehicle collision on Nipissing Street in West Nipissing. A passenger in one vehicle, a 62-year-old female from Sudbury, was pronounced deceased. Two other occupants of that vehicle reported minor injuries.

Three occupants of the second vehicle were transported to area hospitals with serious injuries. A fourth occupant of the second vehicle, a 15-year-old female from West Nipissing, sustained life-threatening injuries and was later pronounced deceased at the hospital.

As a result of the investigation, Nathan PEREIRA, 18 years old, from North Bay, was charged with:

  • Dangerous operation causing death - two counts
  • Impaired operation causing death - two counts
  • Impaired operation causing death, over 80 - two counts
  • Dangerous operation causing bodily harm - two counts
  • Impaired operation causing bodily harm - two counts
  • Impaired operation causing bodily harm, over 80 - two counts
  • Drive motor vehicle, perform stunt, excessive speed
  • Driver, fail to properly wear seat belt
  • Drive while passenger under 16 fails to properly wear a seat belt - two counts
  • Red light, fail to stop
  • Disobey stop sign, fail to stop
  • Novice driver, blood alcohol concentration above zero

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on Tuesday, May 7, 2026, in North Bay.
