CHARGES LAID AFTER THEFT OF VEHICLE

(RENFREW, ON) - The Renfrew Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged one individual following an incident involving attempted vehicle break-ins in Pembroke.
On Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at approximately 4:50 pm, officers from the Upper Ottawa Valley (UOV) Detachment responded to a call for service regarding a person attempting to enter vehicles. Upon arrival, officers learned the suspect had stolen a vehicle and fled the area.
Members of the UOV Detachment and Renfrew OPP coordinated efforts to locate the stolen vehicle. It was later observed on Highway 17 near Renfrew, where a spike belt was deployed but was unsuccessful. Shortly after, the vehicle was involved in a single-vehicle collision.
The suspect fled on foot and attempted to steal a second vehicle, which was unsuccessful. The individual then exited the vehicle and was arrested.
As a result of the investigation, Todd MEGRATH age 46 of no fixed address was charged with:
- Robbery with violence
- Two counts fail to comply with probation order
- Two counts of theft over $5000 motor vehicle
- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000
- Dangerous operation
- Failure or refusal to comply with demand
- Obstruct peace officer
- Assault Peace officer
- Assault with a weapon
The accused was held for a bail hearing.
