TRAFFIC COMPLAINT LEADS TO IMPAIRED DRIVING CHARGE

(MONTAGUE TWP, ON) - The Lanark County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a Smith Falls resident with impaired driving.

On Saturday, February 14, 2026, Lanark County OPP officers responded to a complaint of a vehicle in the ditch on Roger Stevens Drive in Montague Township. Officers located the vehicle just before 8:00 pm

After speaking with the male, the driver was arrested and transported to the Smith Falls Police Detachment in for testing.

As a result of the investigation, James SWEET, 46-years-old, has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Careless Driving

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth on Monday, March 23, 2026.

The individual’s driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days (Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension), and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
